Advocate wins six more journalism awards

The Advocate has claimed six more awards for journalism excellence this spring, bringing its total to 100 awards since 2010.

On March 9, Advocate editor Jessica Brodie accepted four awards from the United Methodist Association of Communicators on behalf of newspaper:

  • First place, writing, for Brodie’s news article, “I Thank God for Y’all”
  • Second place, writing, for Brodie’s feature article, “From PTSD to Jesus Loves Me”
  • Second place, writing, for Brodie’s nonfiction/commentary, “Quiet Nudging”
  • Second place, newspaper publication, South Carolina United Methodist Advocate

On March 17, the South Carolina Press Association honored the Advocate with two additional awards:

  • Second place, faith reporting, for Brodie’s article “From PTSD to Jesus Loves Me”
  • Second place, newspaper publication, South Carolina United Methodist Advocate

“Awards like these confirm the high quality the Advocate consistently achieves,” said Bill Click, chair of the Advocate’s Board of Trustees. “It’s remarkable that the Advocate has earned 100 awards during Jessica Brodie’s tenure as editor, indicating her excellence as a writer and editor. We are blessed to have Jessica as our editor.”

The Advocate is the oldest newspaper in Methodism, marking 181 years of publication this year.
