Submit a story or photo
The Advocate welcomes news and photography about your event, ministry or other newsworthy happening. Submissions should be about a South Carolina United Methodist church, ministry or individual, or be of interest to S.C. United Methodists.
We are a monthly publication, so news must be sent well in advance. Deadlines are the 10th of the month for the following month’s newspaper (e.g. July 10 is the deadline for the August paper).

- Story ideas
- Calendar items
- Letters to the editor (350 words maximum; must include name, phone, email, church, city)
- Viewpoints/op-eds (600-800 words; must include name, phone, email, church, city)
- High-resolution photos (1 MB in size, 300 dpi or most any original, uncompressed image)
Email news submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org. If email is not an option, then we can accept submissions by fax at 803-735-8168 or mail at the Advocate, 4908 Colonial Dr., Columbia, SC 29203.
All news submissions are fully edited. Letters and commentary are subject only to editing as needed to meet standards of grammar, space and interest. Inappropriate language or personal attacks will be struck. If you have a submission that promotes a business or sells an item, you would be better served through a display advertisement.
