South Carolina gets help after the hurricane

Two days after Hurricane Matthew pummeled South Carolina, United Methodist disaster leaders are rolling up their sleeves and getting to work. Their first order of business: assessment and early response. The disaster hotline is now live as the UMCSC sends ERTs, cleaning buckets, health kits and Christian love to people in need. ‘Selma’ helps build bridge to racial healing in SC

Churches across the state are seeing the movie en masse or teaming up with other-race congregations to see it, then holding honest and prayerful discussions together about what it means to them, how we view race today and how we can move forward as Christians together.

Above and beyond: Mount Horeb’s $16.4M expansion

Work is moving along on what is thought to be the largest capital campaign in the South Carolina United Methodist Conference—and it’s all driven by prayer and an unwavering faith that God is at the wheel. Workers broke ground this winter on a new $16.4 million expansion at Mount Horeb United Methodist Church, featuring a multipurpose worship area, plus repurposing of the existing church gym into a two-story youth facility.

Computers for Ghana

By Jessica Brodie. Churches in one of South Carolina’s most rural areas are coming together to help rural brothers and sisters a world away. The Orangeburg District of The United Methodist Church is partnering with The Methodist Church of Ghana to build a technology center and library in the remote village of Abesewa, Ghana, which is in the Ashanti Region of the northwestern African nation.
