Clergy and laity invited to 2011 Caring for Creation event

The four-day event is for clergy and laity to address how the faith community can promote justice for the Earth and its people.

“All Creation is the Lord’s, and we are responsible for the ways in which we use and abuse it,” is from Para. 160 of the Social Principles of the Book of Discipline.

Onsite and offsite events Friday morning will supplement workshops and worship held during the rest of the weekend.

Cost for the event is $75 if registered before Jan. 1; $85 prior to March 1; and $95 after March 1. Discounted rates are available for teams of three.

For those interested in going a day early, organizers have arranged for registrants to spend 24 hours in a community working toward sustainability. Narrow Ridge, located in Knoxille, Tenn., is a non-profit organization established to study, teach and demonstrate a theological approach to the principles of ecology and sustainable living. Cost for the overnight and four meals is $60 for students and seniors and $80 for others.

CEUs are available, and the number depends on how much of the weekend you choose to participate.
